Charlotte based FairPoint Communications has announced that it will provide 100 free high-definition television to Portsmouth consumers to conduct a test of its new television technology. FairPoint will start offering the HDTV sets next month in the fiber-optic service area of the operator, and the testing will be for three months and take the feed back from the residents to rectify any fault in the service.

FairPoint spokesperson said that many communities are interested in this program but the cable operator wanted to test it in Portsmouth as this will be convenient for them to gauge the performance.

After completing the test the cable operator will offer regular services and says will compete with Comcast in this region.
