Comcast has launched WiMax wireless service to Chicago subscribers on December 2. WiMax wireless service is fourth generation technology delivers wireless broadband for notebooks and mobile.
Comcast holds stake in Clearwire and will use the networks technology to offer the wireless service to Chicago subscribers.
WiMax wireless service speed on 4G won’t be as fast as most residential connections, but will be a notable improvement over 3G speeds.
Comcast has already launches 4G service in Philadelphia, Atlanta and Portland, Ore.
Comcast’s regional vice president of marketing, David Williams, said “Comcast is hoping to win consumers to 4G by bundling the mobile broadband connection with its residential Internet service. That’s the big difference between us and, say, Sprint with their 4G network in the Chicago market, or Clearwire.”
