Comcast Hometown Network to launch a live, twice weekly, half-hour newscast “Upside” on Tuesday, March 15.

“Upside” on  features Comcast Hometown Network the positive side of news and covers stories not found on traditional local newscasts.  Upside’s slogan — “It’s All Good” – illustrates the program’s focus on what is going right in the world, the country, the state and in our local communities. The newscast, airing live at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and replaying at 10:00 p.m. on those evenings, features positive perspectives, in-depth news coverage, interviews, and commentary.

“Viewers are tired of the ‘if it bleeds, it leads’ mentality of some local newscasts that focus on crime and negative news,” said Jeff Giles, Director of Comcast Hometown Network.  “While we obviously need to pay attention to the negative stories that could potentially impact our lives, we felt that equal time should be spent on what is going right in our world.  Comcast Hometown Network’s Upside focuses on the good news and positive stories that don’t get enough news coverage.”

Sample segments on Upside include stories on advancements in transportation and their impact on the environment; the San Francisco Chapter of Mustaches For Kids, and their efforts to fundraise for children; and advice on how Americans can build up their savings.

Upside is hosted by anchor Tori Taylor, a former reporter for Current TV. Since coming to Comcast Hometown Network in 2009, Taylor has also served as a sideline reporter for Comcast Hometown Network prep football, and live sports broadcasts. Additional “on location” news coverage for the program is contributed by Upside reporter Myriah Johnson as well as New America Media (NAM) TV anchor Odette Keeley. Upside is produced by Amy Morrell and directed by Michael Serafin.

In addition to airing live on Channel 104, Upside will also be available any time of the day or night via Comcast’s popular ON DEMAND platform, which is free to Comcast digital customers.  To view past newscasts of Upside, Comcast Digital Cable customers can tune to Channel 1 on their Digital Cable lineup or press the ON DEMAND button on their remote control, then click on the “Get Local” section, click on Comcast Hometown Network and select “Upside.”

Producers Michael Rakosi and Anita Poll have announced that they are releasing a new webisode of YouTube series, “That Show with Michael Rakosi.”

“That Show with Michael Rakosi” is the first serious, sometimes quirky talk show about men, specifically 7 men who share their innermost thoughts about fear, manhood, danger and sexuality, anything but sports or politics.

In this never before seen Webisode, boxing legend, Tommy Gallagher (formerly of NBC’s “The Contender”) shares an uncensored, uncouth telling of his most outrageous challenger in his long run boxing career.  The five-minute outtake segment packs enough punch to earn a flagged-material censorship warning for all underage-viewing attempts.

“That Show with Michael Rakosi” has found a loyal following in YouTube visitors who have tuned in multiple times for all of the posted webisodes in the series.  This new material will be offered to cable & network producers as well as on-line content servers interested in interviewing Michael Rakosi and members of the cast in advance of the first airings of the webisode before it is made public on the YouTube archive. Real talk with real men.

As an avid art collector, business entrepreneur, culture magnet and sports enthusiast, Michael Rakosi is something of a Renaissance Man. After over 40 years of a successful business career in New York City, he decided to take on Show Business.

He has appeared on television programs such as “The Equalizer” and two episodes of the “Cosby Show” and acted in movies, including “Rooftops” directed by Robert Wise and “Price of Glory” directed by Carlos Avila.
He has hosted his own Cable TV program, “The Mike Rakosi Show,” and recently was seen and heard during the 2007 Super Bowl on a national Mercedes commercial, which also aired on the Academy Awards. In 2005, he began a new facet of his career, stand-up comedy.

He has appeared over 300 times at the famed Comic Strip in New York City, and comedy clubs in Cleveland, New Jersey, Long Island and Los Angeles. His Internet based talk show, “That Show with Michael Rakosi,” has become a sensation, with the show’s website, ThatshowwithMichaelRakosi.com rapidly approaching 300,000 hits.

Anita Poll is a television and theatrical producer with over 25 years of experience in award winning television commercials, short subject films, and television promotional spots.  She was Associate Producer of “Big Shoot,” an Off Broadway show, producer of “The Wedding,” and is currently producing an Off Broadway play about Gustav Mahler and Sigmund Freud.

Andy Clayman is a director, producer and founder of the creative marketing and development company, Mediaworks, Inc., based in New York City. In addition to directing and editing “That Show with Michael Rakosi,” Mr. Clayman has created the television program “Window to the Universe” narrated by Tom Brokaw, for WNYC (local PBS affiliate) in cooperation with the American Museum of Natural History.

Mr. Clayman also partnered with Adam Weinberg, Director of the Whitney Museum, to produce the multi media component of the blockbuster exhibition “Edward Hopper and the American Imagination.” Both Ruth Reichl and Frank Rich have written about Andy Clayman’s work. In 2004 Mediaworks was nominated for an Academy Award for the feature documentary film, “My Architect,” which the company produced.

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) will broadcast ‘UNCF An Evening of Stars’ Tribute to Chaka Khan presented by Target nationally on more than 40 stations in major markets on Saturday, January 29 and on Sunday, January 30 on BET Networks at 10 p.m. ET and WGN America at 3:00 a.m. CT.  Six-time Emmy Award winner Louis J. Horvitz is executive producer and director of UNCF An Evening of Stars.

With more than 40 years in music behind her, Grammy-winning soulstress Chaka Khan will be serenaded from the UNCF An Evening of Stars® stage by an all-star lineup of entertainers as she is presented with the UNCF Award of Excellence.  The award is given to an artist whose career and support of UNCF and minority education has been exemplary.

The roster of performers includes Stevie Wonder, Fantasia, Angie Stone, Melanie Fiona, Ledisi, El DeBarge, Estelle, Faith Evans, Ginuwine, Bettye LaVette, Herbie Hancock, Indira Khan and Mark Stevens. The parade of celebrities joining UNCF President and CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax in celebrating Khan’s career include Mo’Nique, Akon, LeVar Burton, Kim Coles, Taraji P. Henson, Quincy Jones, Tom Joyner, CNN’s Soledad O’Brien, Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker, Amber Riley, Bobb’e J. Thompson, Tracie Thoms, Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson, Lauren Velez and a special taped appearance by Mary J. Blige.

“This year’s UNCF An Evening of Stars® is exciting and filled with high-energy performances of Chaka Khan’s greatest hits such as ‘Tell Me Something Good,’ ‘What Cha Gonna Do for Me?’ and many others from her extensive song book, as we celebrate not only her contribution to the music industry but her dedication to minority education,” said Dr. Lomax. “We are grateful for the support of all of our celebrities, sponsors and supporters, who understand the importance of education and are helping UNCF ensure that every child gets a good education from pre-school through college.”

The stars on the UNCF An Evening of Stars® stage contributed not only their renditions of Khan’s greatest hits, but special appeals to help UNCF students whose graduation is threatened by the lingering recession.  Layoffs, pay cuts, and the disappearance of many private student loan programs have left students owing money for tuition, text books, and dormitory rooms–bills that must be paid before they can graduate.  From the stage and in videotaped appeals, celebrities ask the show audience and television viewers to text “UNCF” to 50555 on their cell phones to donate $10 to help students walk the last mile of their education.  To learn more, visit www.uncf.org and click on the Campaign for Emergency Student Aid icon.

Target serves as the Presenting Sponsor of UNCF An Evening of Stars®.  National corporate sponsors include AT&T and McDonald’s.  Longtime UNCF partner Wells Fargo is an official sponsor along with BET Networks and WGN America.  Other sponsors include national media partner Clear Channel, major sponsor U.S. Army and American Airlines is the official airline of UNCF An Evening of Stars.
