YouTube has announced plans to bring new original channels, created specifically for today’s connected viewers, to its platform.

Red Bull Media House North America is one of the inaugural Action Sports content producers. The Red Bull channel will re-launch in January 2012 and feature exclusive series which will chronicle the competition and daily lives of the world’s best action sports athletes in snowboarding, skateboarding, mountain biking, surfing, freestyle motocross and more.

Red Bull Media House is a global media company that produces and distributes compelling sports, culture and lifestyle programming across multiple platforms. Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate Insurance Announce Partnership to Honor “Hometown Hall of Famers”

The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate Insurance Company have announced “Hometown Hall of Famers,” a national program that will honor the hometown roots of the sport’s greatest players with special ceremonies and plaque dedication events in local communities.

“Hometown Hall of Famers presented by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate” is the Hall of Fame’s first nationwide plaque program and will lead into the celebration of its 50th anniversary in August 2012.

The program will host its first event today where Hall of Fame member and national spokesperson Howie Long will be honored in his hometown of Charlestown, Mass. The former all-pro defensive end for the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders will receive the commemorative plaque at the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club. Long spent countless hours at the Boys & Girls Club while growing up in the greater Boston area.

“Honoring the hometowns that helped create the foundation for Hall of Famers’ pathway to the Hall will be truly special as these plaques will live forever in their hometown communities,” said George Veras, Pro Football Hall of Fame Enterprises president and CEO. “The Hall of Fame is pleased that Allstate has recognized the significance of this program and given all of us – the players, their communities and the Pro Football Hall of Fame – a chance to celebrate the hometown stories of these legendary professional football players.”

The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Allstate will host 10 events in the fall of 2011, and will honor as many as 50 Hall of Famers in their hometowns in 2012. There will be a plaque dedication ceremony honoring former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath in his hometown of Beaver Falls, Pa., on Sept. 12.

Other Hall of Fame members that will be recognized as part of the program in 2011 include Bart Starr (Montgomery, Ala.), Sonny Jurgensen (Wilmington, N.C.), Barry Sanders (Wichita, Kan.), John Madden (Daly City, Calif.), Walter Payton (Columbia, Miss.), Roger Staubach (Cincinnati) and George Halas (Chicago).

Verizon Wireless ‘COLT’ Offers Enhanced Capacity for Ohio State University Football Fans

Verizon Wireless has installed a temporary cell site — called a COLT, or Cell On Light Truck — near The Ohio State University’s Ohio Stadium to provide additional network capacity just in time for football season. The site will increase capacity in the southern portion of the stadium and the area immediately outside the stadium.

A COLT is a fully functional, mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a given area, thereby enabling customers attending home football games in the area to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive email and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

“Ensuring our customers can count on their wireless devices for communication, news and more at major events is part of our ongoing commitment to network reliability,” said Mark Frazier – president, Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. “We look at how our customers’ usage patterns are changing at events like these and utilize this information to make sure we stay well ahead of their demand.”

In addition to enhancing its 3G network, Verizon Wireless has deployed its 4G LTE Network in 117 metropolitan areas coast to coast, including Columbus, covering more than half of all Americans. During 2011, the company will continue to expand its 4G footprint, bringing its 4G LTE network to more than 185 million Americans by year-end. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE wireless network is the fastest and most advanced 4G network in America and offers speeds up to 10 times faster than the current 3G network.

Charter Announces Robert Quicksilver Executive Vice President And Chief Administrative Officer

Charter Communications has announced that Robert E. Quicksilver will join the company on September 6, 2011 as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. In his new position, Mr. Quicksilver will oversee Charter’s legal, government affairs, human resources and advertising sales teams.

Mr. Quicksilver will join Charter from the Washington, D.C. office of Patton Boggs, one of the leading public policy law firms in the U.S., where he is a partner in the Technology/Communications and Business groups.

During a career that spans three decades, Mr. Quicksilver has also held leadership positions at several media companies, having served as President of Network Distribution of FOX Broadcasting Company, Vice President and General Counsel of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Vice President and General Counsel of River City Broadcasting and Chief Content Officer of TidalTV. In addition, he served as a consultant to Yahoo! Media Group.

U.S. Olympic Committee, VisitBritain Announce “Team USA: Britain Bound” to Mark One Year Until London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

The U.S. Olympic Committee and VisitBritain today announced “Team USA: Britain Bound,” a first-of-its kind, interactive program that will see an all-star roster of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic champions tour Britain this fall. The program was launched at a One Year Countdown party at New York’s Lincoln Center Tuesday night and will take fans behind the scenes as the athletes visit some of the Olympic venues and iconic British travel spots ahead of the Games next summer. The program’s interactive website (www.TeamUSA.org/BritainBound) will also give fans the chance to share their ideas on what the athletes should see and do when they arrive in Britain.

The Team USA: Britain Bound tour is scheduled throughout the fall of 2011, with the roster of U.S. athletes to include:

Guest Analysts To Enhance ESPN’s Open Championship Coverage

ESPN’s all-star lineup of analysts will anchor 68 hours of television and extensive multiplatform coverage of the Open Championship, golf’s oldest major. Guest analysts will include five-time Open Championship winner Tom Watson, 1973 winner Tom Weiskopf and the BBC’s legendary golf analyst Peter Alliss.

ESPN will air all four rounds of tournament play live, starting Thursday, July 14, at 4 a.m. ET from Royal St George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England.
